Information on Comics and Comic Book Heroes
The word ‘comic’ is derived from a Greek Latin word which means ‘graphic medium or images being used to convey a narration or story’. Usually there are a few images in a sequence order that tells a story. Some might have words in balloons accompanying the images to tell the story even more effectively. Comics have been established as an art form since the late 19th century. Since then the comics industry has bloomed like mushrooms after rain.
Rodolphe Topffer is considered as the key figure behind the early comics exposure in the late 19th century. He was a Francophone Swiss artist. Then came the early 20th century where comics were at its peak glory and fame. In China, they had Lianhuanhua, which are palm-sized picture books. In Belgium, comic artists produced comic strips for newspapers to be printed in their supplements as entertainment for the readers. Then, comics were also printed in booklets to be sold to people, generally teenagers and kids, who love comics. Comics have become part of our life and culture.
Usually a comic artist would use a variety of pencils, papers and even waterproof ink to draw their cartoon characters and its storyboard. Then there are a variety of brush sizes and different colour markers for the inking. Overall, it is not easy to draw comics, as you need to have the talent, the ideas and the right utensils to get started. However, now as we have the latest technology such as computers, most of the artists would use the help of computers to generate their comics, including drawing and inking, all by using computers alone. Such technology is really bring an advancement to the comics industry.
